Be Authentic and Welcome Others’ Authenticity

Friends,

Brene Brown, one of my favorite authors, is a shame and resilience researcher. She writes:

“Because true belonging only happens when we present our authentic, imperfect selves to the world, our sense of belonging can never be greater than our level of self-acceptance.”

Be Authentic to Be a Gift to the World

You don’t become a gift in the life of others by trying to be something you are not. You don’t have to wear your heart on your sleeve, but neither do you have to be face to be a gift to others. As we acknowledge our true selves, warts and all, we can begin to authentically own our identity as a person who has something to give to the world. Presenting your authentic self is a foundation of a courageous and generous life.

Be a Person Who Encourages Authenticity in Others

One of the greatest gifts you can give other people is the gift of acceptance. You know (hopefully) know what it is like to be around a truly safe person. It’s nice. Instead of judging others, accept them ass fellow humans on this journey of life. Be the kind of person who encourages rather than discourages authenticity in those around you. This will happen, in large part, as you strive to be authentic with others in your journey toward a more courageous and generous life.

You are God’s gift to the world. Believe it. Own it. Live it!
