What do you think would be the first thing that Jesus would say to you if he appeared to you personally? In this message, Pastor John Rallison explores two post-resurrection appearances of Jesus found in John 20:19-30. Pastor John takes a few minutes to explore how Jesus sends us as ambassadors, unraveling a famously misused statement of Jesus, “If you forgive the sins of any, they are forgiven. If you retain the sins of any, they are retained.” And then Pastor John asks the hearers to think about what they think Jesus would say to them, were he to appear to them personally. What about you? What would he say to you? He could have chided the disciples for their fear, but he didn’t. He said, “Peace be with you.” That’s what he would say to you. “Peace be with you.” Now, to be sure, he would probably continue by offering you some path toward spiritual growth. The words would be in love not judgment. And his first words to you would be “Peace be with you.”
